ENTANGLED GARDEN

In this series, Cornelius uses the garden as a metaphor for the need to belong, for the desire to be the flower that is valued and nurtured not the weed which is ripped from the soil and discarded.

Cornelius pounded flowers into the paper, staining the paper with the juice of the plants. The ephemeral stains mark the often uncertain and painful process of belonging.

The entangled plants and flowers from the garden etched into a metal plate and layered over the flower stains are reflective of the complexities of belonging.
