About This Work:

This series of liquid acrylic and graphite paintings are influenced by the diverse flora and fauna in the tropical garden at The Leaf in Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg. 

The Leaf is a spectacular indoor horticultural attraction where visitors journey through four distinct biomes including the tropical jungle. It is a stunning showcase of our diversity, expressed through plants that shape our lives here in Canada and across the globe.

When I draw at The Leaf, I experience great joy surrounded by magnificent tropical trees and plants.  I love the rich variety of greens with the occasional splash of the bright colour of the tropical flowers. 

I am concerned for the rainforests and forests worldwide. In many of my paintings, I include a ghost tree as a reminder of the trees and species that are disappearing or have become extinct. I want to remember that every tree that is lost creates a void.

I make this work because I want everyone to fall in love with the tropical rainforest. I want us all to care about the health and survival of our trees and forests everywhere in the world and to act to preserve and protect these magical places.

How This Work Was Made:

These paintings are created with liquid acrylic and ink on 22x30in 100% rag Somerset paper with deckled edges. The painting fills the whole paper.

My original drawing is packaged in a clear plastic sleeve and can be shipped flat or rolled.
