Congo Grimm

I have returned only once to the Congo since I was a teenager as the danger from political instability and diseases such as Ebola are a present reality, yet my emotional connection to this inaccessible place is real.

The sight, smell, touch and sounds of any jungle remind me of my childhood home.

The empty child outlines create a stark contrast between my formative, happy childhood experiences and the political instability that caused us to flee the Congo. The hollow childhood silhouette is an expression of longing, absence, sorrow and regret.
