Inside Out

The aritsts explored their experience of Winnipeg as home in the work that they exhibitied in Trinidad.  The four artists who traveled to Trinidad were Karen Cornelius, Isam Aboud, Ray Dirks and Ruth Mandel.  The work of Carol Mills and KC Adams was included in the exhibition at the Voix Gallery in Trinidad.

The artists who traveled to Trinidad spent 10 days on the island.  We participated in an exhibition which included seven local Trinidadian artists. We gave several workshops including one in which the seven local artists participated.  We also visited other local galleries, art cooperatives and artists studios.

Time was spent absorbing the local culture, visiting local sites and museums, trying out new foods and getting to know individual artists and members of the community.  We spent the majority of our time in the local black and Asian communities.

This international cross cultural experience was enriching.  Experiencing another culture and place allows me more clarity into my own culture and place. This experience has already inflenced my work.
