Landmarking

A series of work that laid the foundation for Ailanthus.  In this work I explored significant landmarkings that make Canada such a wonderful country never loosing the awareness of the possiblity that through misuse we could loose these wonders of nature.

Ailanthus

“In this body of work, I investigate concepts of survival using the motif of the Ailanthus tree which originated in China and is noted for its tenacious ability to survive. The scared trunk in its resilience  symbolizes the potential to overcome adversity and trauma.   My intent is to provoke recognition of the interdependence of resilience and endurance and at the same time sensitivity to the vulnerability of our existence. .”   In the words of Salman Rushdie “life’s bruises demythologizes us all.”

Marked

Fear as felt by all human beings is culturally and individually variable. Its varied masks are countless. It influences behavior from daily interaction to large-scale international decisions and maps routes of existence, which determines choices and destinations.  Fear requires risk assessments based on actual experience, yet in its formless construct yields an erosion of quality of life.  It contributes to chaos, death and destruction, tracing devastation on the skin of the planet and on the bodies of the inhabitants, marking all.

Death By Oil

Image which was exhibited in the 12th Space International Biennial in Soeul, Korea in 2002.
